Steel Horse Signs New Driver in David Preston for 2009
Steel Horse Racing started making some moves to help improve the team for the upcoming 2009 season. David come to Steel Horse from Max Performance racing Where he teamed up with Lee Harrell. David is currently running in the STRL Cup Road Runner Division, ASCORS Pro Geek Truck Series, ASCORS RPM league Manager Cup Series. Dave started sim racing in 2005 and hasint looked back. He is a young guy with plenty to learn from the vets on the team and he may even be able to give a few pointers as well, as a few of the SHR drivers have raced against him in the STRL league. So now instead of driving against him they will be driving with him. Congrats on David becoming a Horseman.

Jason Swann tames Bowman Gray

Bowman Gray - ASRL CTS Division

The Truck Series rolled into the short bull ring track of Bowman Gray Stadium this week. A track usually reserved for the beating of the survivor series, the truck series drivers took to the track for points, and to hopefully keep most of the sheet metal attached to the truck. 15 drivers would show they could handle some short track racing, to include series drop in, Bill Sutter, who must have thought Bowman gray was some unknown road course! But nonetheless Mr. Sutter would lay down a hot lap and take the pole for the race (not bad for a road ace!) The Yellow would be displayed 9 times for 50 laps, which considering the track/and number of drivers was really good. 3 Lead Changes with the #30 driven by Jason Swann leading 73 of the total 124 laps, and leading the all important lap, the last one! Jason grabs his first win in the Truck series, and climbs to 3rd in the overall standings. With bonus points, and still many races left, it is still anyone's race to grab the 2nd half season Championship. So don't be left out of the action, come join the truck series every Thursday night with the track opening for practice at 9:00pm EST.

Valley takes the win at Salem

Salem, IN - ASRL Speedy Awards Division

The Speedy Awards Division stopped in at Salem Speedway this week. There was another good turn out at the high banked short track. The banked turns allows for some fast, close racing, but the teams quickly found out that you had to avoid the bumps at the bottom of the turns.
Tracy Valley was fast from the minute they took his #27 Memphis Tigers Chevy off the hauler. Valley not only won practice, but backed it up with a pole for the race.
The race began in typical short track fashion...a lot of rubbin' and crumpled sheet metal. The drivers kept their cool and we saw many laps of great racing. As the race unfolded, many driver had different pit strategies. This allowed many different drivers to lead a few laps. Some drivers found this track to be a handful and ended up having to park their cars early. In the end, Tracy found his way back to the point. He was able to lead the most laps in route to his first win of the season. Don Sutter, Woody Sykes, Jeff Perry and Dennis Dalla rounded out the top 5.
Pocono will be the next stop for the Speedy Awards Series. Come out and join the fun on Monday nights.

ASRL BGN Chicago--Steel Horse Racing Shows Some Muscle.
Chicago Speedway, Joliet, IL.

The Al Capone Booze Warehouse 200 – July 12, 2008

ASRL BGN Division strolled into Chicago Speedway with 18 car haulers this weekend and boy, did they put on a show!!. With only 2 yellow flags flying early in the race this meant for some really good green flag racing with pit stops on the go.

Tom Ashley captured the pole position this night with a time of 28.919. David Gibson took the outside with a time of 29.075. There was a duel in the making with these two at the front of the pack. Gibson took the lead from the get go with Ashley in hot pursuit. Within the first 5 laps there were two cautions and Ashley was able to wrestle the lead away from Gibson. But after the 2 drivers took off from the pack, Gibson retook the lead on lap 16 and never looked back. It wasn’t until everyone started to pit that Gibson lost the lead. After he took his 4 fresh Goodyears and gas and left, it only took about 10 laps for him to take the lead after the rest of the cars pitted. Again, he showed that he was on a mission to give Tony Ratliff some competition for that BGN title. Gibson lead a total of 87 of the 107 lap race.
Ratliff took the 2nd spot 2.96 seconds behind the winner. 3rd place went to Woody Sykes, 4th was claimed by DJ Turner and 5th was Bob Laprime. Gibson’s teammate Jason Swann finished 9th.

This brings the competition a little closer for that coveted BGN Title and it looks like the rest of the season has more of the same to look forward too.

Next week the series goes to a night race at Gateway Speedway.

David Gibson SHR's new Team Captain
swannie writes "The votes are in, and by unanimous decision, it is my pleasure to announce David Gibson as our new team captain. David has been a member of the SHR team since 2005 and has had many victories in ASRL, as well as, back to back championships in 2006 and 2007. Not only has David battled for wins and brought home championships in ASRL, but he was also the STRL 2006 Tribute Cup Rookie of the Year, as well as, the 2006 and 2008 STRL All-Star Challenge Champion, not to mention his 3 wins in the STRL. Not only is David a hard racing champion, but he has amazed many of us with his artistic talent (www.visionsportsart.com). I feel confident that David not only has the talent but also the skills needed to manage our team and take it to an entirely new level.
We at SHR are a highly respected and competitive team in the SIM racing world and I believe I can speak for the team in saying congratulations David on your new position and we look forward to seeing what you have in store for the team.

ASRL BGN New Hampshire-- Gibson Comes to Life
Loudon,NH. ASRL BGN Division

Saturday’s race provided some energetic drivers to show their muscle for this past BGN race at Loudon. David Gibson took the pole position with a time of 30.010, followed by tony Ratliff, Dave Matson, Woody Sykes and Jason Swann to round out the top 5 qualifiers.
The race was dominated by Gibson who led a race high 134 laps of the scheduled 135 with team mate Jason Swann getting 5 extra bonus points for leading the only other lap. Some long green flag runs were present during the race but it did suffer from having some cautions periods during the race. A total of 10 yellows flew but Gibson was able to keep the lead entering and leaving pit road by having the first pit stall awarded to him because of the pole position. As the pack spread out during the race the lead pack of Gibson, Ratliff and Sykes were on a tear of their own but just couldn’t quite make the pass they needed to take the lead away from the 2 time division champion. The race came to a close from a last lap caution and the race back to the line ended for the checkers as Gibson took the win and Sykes taking 2nd, with Ratliff taking 3rd. Alberico and Turner were 4th and 5th to round out the top 5. SHR Driver Jason Swann wound up 12th with a blown clutch and Dave Matson was involved in an accident and took 17th. With the win, Gibson is starting to chip away at the lead of Ratliff. He now trails the points leader by 157 points and the half way point of the season is right around the corner.

Next week the BGN Division heads to Daytona for the Discount Dental Service 250.

Matson Manhandles the Monster

Dover, Delaware --- Story by RT Valley

This weekends GNS race at the Monster Mile in Dover Delaware started with a 3 hour rain delay , finally the rains gave way, and with grey skies still lingering over the race track, the fans started finding their way back to their seats for what was to be an awesome event filled with a lot of green flag racing. Steel Horse Racing's RT Valley snagged the pole award by just .004 sec. over his teammate Dave Matson, driver of the #09 Thunder Designs Dodge Charger. Lined up behind the front row, for the rest of the top 5 starting positions, were 3 A-Force Ashley Racing teammates lead by Robbie Johnson, with Tom Ashley and Bob Laprime following close behind. As the race got underway, it didn't take long for Matson to flex his muscles, he took the lead on the first corner and put his trusty stead on cruise control for what was to be a dominating performance. The Monster Mile is notorious for eating up your tires, with long green runs a norm here, you must take care of your equipment from the drop of the green flag by keeping the fenders straight and not sliding your tires at all. Thru out the event, while all the drivers were consciously doing just that, there was still a lot of good clean hard racing with some great side by side action all around the track, and as expected, the race only saw 3 cautions for just 11 of the scheduled 140 laps. Jeff Perry, with his Ultra Motorsports teammate DJ Turner close in tow, made a bid for the lead at one point as did Steve McDermott, driver of the #73 Chevy and Bob Laprime driver of the #25 Cajun special. McDermott was one of the few drivers and the only one of this group to make it up front to lead a lap and gain those 5 precious bonus points. There were a total of 8 lead changes among 5 different drivers with Matson earning the front runner award for 110 laps lead to his credit and taking home the win. David Gibson and Tony Ratliff battled hard for the runner up position with Gibson coming out on top, Tony settled for the 3rd position while the two Ultra Motorsports entries of Perry and Turner finished out the top 5 positions. Congratulations go to Dave Matson for such a fine performance this week. This is Dave's House!

Next week, the GNS series will visit the Nashville Super Speedway for the JJ's Slaughterhouse 200, see ya'll there, good luck drivers.
